Today Mayor Patricia de Lille
presented proposals to community members in BM Section in Khayelitsha.
A New Year’s Day fire swept through
the area leaving 3 000 people homeless and 800 shacks destroyed.
A crisis committee was formed and has since
been holding daily meetings with the Mayor.
Mayoral Committee Member for Housing Ernest
Sonnenberg explains the outcomes of the proposal are that all 854 families that
were affected by the fire will be relocated to a temporary location area within
the surrounding community.
onnenberg adds that each family will
a shared service plot on which to settle in the TRA.
Sonnenberg further more said the incremental
development in this area will be developed and the families will be moved
there, once that area is ready.
The BM area in the south will be developed
which includes the space reconfiguration as well as additional services.
