Metrorail Western Cape Regional Manager Mthuthuzeli Swart today said their preliminary investigation of the train that caught alight in Woodstock on Tuesday, showed it was an act of arson.

Tuesday four passenger carriages caught alight in Woodstock, two people suffered neck and leg injuries and the train driver suffered smoke inhalation.

Swart said trains on the central line are not fully back to normal, as yet.

Swart said metrorail is calling on all their commuters to be vigilant in protecting the assets of metrorail.

Swart adds that under the foot bridge in Woodstock where the train stopped needs to be investigated to see if it is safe for use by commuters.

Swart furthermore adds that all commuters on the central line at the moment the train does not stop at Woodstock, they have to proceed to Cape Town station and then change over and get off at Woltemade.

Swart said this is now a great inconvenience to thousands of people just because of one criminal.
