More farmworkers were arrested on
Tuesday afternoon outside the fruit depot in Barrydale.
This follows the on-going solidarity
and protest actions in the struggle for a better living wage for
farmworkers.
Farmworkers in the Western
Cape are demanding a R150 per day living wage
and better conditions on the farms.
Mawubuye Land Rights Movement’s
Mercia Andrews said each day they see different levels of police aggression
towards protestors.
Meanwhile the Congress of South
African Trade Union today said the strike could be suspended if Agri SA
responds positively to their demands.
Clanwilliam farmworkers accepted a
wage offer of R105 by the individual farmers and returned to work.
