The National Union of Metal Workers President
Cedric Gina will be making a detailed public submission to Nersa on why it
should not accept Eskom’s application for increased electricity tariffs.
Furthermore, a throng of NUMSA
members will be picketing outside the ICC where Nersa will be holding this
public hearing today.
Cedric Gina said that NUMSA will do
oral submission to NERSA to oppose the 16% electricity tariff increase that
Eskom has applied for and NUMSA is doing it because they think that this increase
will be detrimental to the economy of the Country.
Gina said that it will also affect
the poor people of our country in a very bad way; in a country that is already has
a high unemployment rate Gina adds that this will add to the problem of poverty.
And it adds to the problem of inequality
and he adds that this increase will really affect the country very badly.
