Today, Minister of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle awarded the first winner of the Safely Home safety Reward campaign of R25 000.

The campaign was launched on the 17th of December 2012 and was aimed at rewarding motorists for good behaviour on the roads during the festive season.

The initiative is part of a good behaviour economics technique aimed to establish a culture of obeying road rules.

Ministerial spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said that it was meant to save lives.

“Minister Carlisle also noted that we should urge motorists to be ambassadors of their own safety as well as that of others” Dube said.

Dube also said that drivers should not speed, drink and drive, be mindful of pedestrians, buckle up and not use cell phones when driving.
