The Western
Cape Provincial Government on Monday welcomed the Western Cape High Court's
ruling on the Khayelitsha Commission of Inquiry.
Premier Helen
Zille established the commission in August to investigate allegations of police
inefficiencies in the township.
This followed
several incidents of mob justice in the area but Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa
went to court to stop it from going ahead.
The case was
heard before three high court judges.
Premier’s
spokespersom Zak Mbhele said they are delighted about the court`s decision.
Meanwhile,
Minister Mthethwa Spokesperson Zweli Mnisi said they will be consulting their
legal team before embarking on any further action regarding the outcome of the
court’s ruling.
Mthethwa last
year argued that Zille's decision to appoint the commission would have an
impact on the independence of the SA Police Service.
Mnisi adds that
at this point in time they are guided by the legal team and a decision will be
taken from there.
