Western Cape Health MEC Theuns Botha has communicated with Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi not to nationalise the province’s hospitals.

Last month Motsoaledi stated that the Health Department were in the process of seeking control over the country’s largest 10 hospitals.

Two of  the hospitals, Groote Schuur and Tygerberg hospitals, are in Cape Town.

Botha said that the Western Cape Province would not consent to this motion to nationalise.

“We believe that although the Minister has a problem throughout the country with the state of hospitals, it is due to political or bad management or bad control, it needs political intervention at those levels of government” Botha said.

Botha said that a  solution could not be shifted from one level of government to another.
