2860 vehicles stopped at roadblocks over the weekend

Western Cape Traffic Officials held 24 roadblocks over the weekend. Several people and drivers were arrested for various charges.

On Friday night two people died in an accident near Paarl.

Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said they stopped 2860 vehicles on these roadblocks.

Africa said 30 drivers were arrested, for driving under the influence of alcohol, another one for having false documentation, and another who was in possession of drugs.

He added that the highest reading was recorded in Mossel Bay area.

Africa adds that two drunk pedestrians were arrested in oudtshoorn.

Africa said that the total amount of fines that were issued were to the value of R166 190 and they also tested the speed of 13 541 motor vehicles.

They also prosecuted 1674 drivers for exceeding the speed limit and the highest speed recorded in the Western Cape was 180kph in a 120 zone on the N2 near Mossel Bay said Africa.
