On Monday Harara Police members received
information in the evening about a member of the Metro Police who was reported
missing yesterday afternoon.
Police embarked on a search and found the
metro police officers car on Baden Powell Road near Monwabisi
Resort.
Police Spokesperson FC van Wyk said the search
continued early this morning and around 09:20 a body of a male
was found 20 meters away from where his vehicle was found by the K9 dog unit.
Van wyk adds that the body had a bullet
wound and all his personal belongings were still in his possession including a
firearm.
Van wyk said a senior official from metro police
who was part of the search party, positively identified the body as this of the
missing metro police officer.
Van wyk said that police members are
currently at the scene with other role players and the investigation continues.
However new information has emerged and the
executive director of security and protection services for the City of Cape Town Richard
Bosman said it appears the deceased metro police officer Darryl
Castle may have taken his own life.
