The Democratic Alliance has revealed that approximately 10 percent of complaints received by the Public Protector between 2010 and 2012 relates to corruption and maladministration in the delivery of low cost housing.

The DA said a number of these complaints concern the favouring of ANC connected contractors.

DA Shadow Minister of Human Settlements Stevens Mokgalapa said there are many allegations that the houses are built at inflated prices.

“Inspections do not conform; some of the houses are done by beneficiaries instead of being done by the municipality” Mokgalapa added.
