The Farmworkers Coalition today said the City of Cape Town’s City Council and the South African Police Services have denied them permission to march to Parliament.

Farmworkers Coalition’s Karel Swarts said they were going to march to highlight the continuing struggles of farmworkers.

Swart said the city and the police said they have a shortage of police officers.

Swarts also said the police get political instructions because they are not supposed to forbid them an opportunity to protest.

He added that this was just their way of advancing towards a living wage.
