The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa said they will go the High Court on an urgent basis for an order that declares lawful the 18-hour picket that the union plans to hold on Wednesday 27 until Thursday 28 February.

The marched will be staged outside the offices of the National Energy Regulator of South Africa in Pretoria, to voice out the union’s concerns with among other things, Eskom`s proposal to increase tariffs by 16% for the next five years.

In a statement issued today, Numsa said for the last two weeks, they have been negotiating without success with South African Police Services and City of Tshwane Metropolitan Police Services to grant Numsa the permit for the picket.

“ An urgent press conference to explain why Numsa is approaching the High Court as well as the reasons for the pickets outside Nersa offices will be held at 12h00,on Sunday” said Numsa in a statement.
