The North West University, Mafikeng Campus, has released a statement clarifying issues regarding the National Student Financial Aid Scheme allocation for 2013.

The NSFAS allocation for the three campuses of the North West for 2013 totalled R149 million as compared to the allocation of R124 million for 2012.

The University’s spokesperson Dan Kgwadi said, the reason why first years were not approved is due to limited funding.

Kgwadi said that a lot of first year students were registered, even returning students with outstanding balances.

Kgwadi said only 380 students were still looking for other sources of funding.

“Most students that were rejected were due to academic performance, not because NSFAS could not cater that much for them” Dgwadi added.
