President Zuma handed over homes to New Year’s Day fire victims

President Jacob Zuma today handed over the first 24 houses out of 100 promised by Gift of the Givers to the New Years Day fire victims in BM Section.

The New Years Day fire in Khayelitsha left 4 000 people homeless more than 920 shacks burnt and three people were killed.

Western Cape Branch Manager for Gift of the Givers Gawa Sayed

said that the houses are made of colour coded corrugated iron sheets.

“It has gutters, it has a water tank placed to catch rain water, and it has two windows, a stable door and its coded green” Sayed said.

Sayed added that the interior is made with new tech board, fully painted inside with a ceiling.

Each has a bed, a mattress for the children, bedding, linen and food parcels.
