On February 14th, South Africa will be part of a global movement for change known as the one billion rising.

Sonke Gender Justice’s Aadielah Maker says that it will be the largest day of action in the history of Valentines Day and the global activist movement to end violence against women and children.

Maker says Sonke Gender Justice and their partners will welcome dawn rising on Table Mountain, to express their outrage, demand, change and rise against injustice, demanding an end to violence against women.

Maker says SGJ is hoping to bring in the day with prayer and dance, they have also asked six different spiritual leaders to also pray at the same time.

Maker adds that they have worked with the UCT School of dance to work out a dance to the song called break the chain, where they are teaching the moves to Captonians and hopefully all of South Africa so that they can invite everybody to participate in the process
