WC roadblock statistics for Friday

The Western Cape Traffic Department held 12 roadblocks throughout the province on Friday night.

1 552 vehicles were stopped, and 675 drivers tested for alcohol. 12 drunk drivers were arrested, with the highest reading being 1.61 mg/l.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said that a taxi driver was arrested for the possession of tik and mandrax.

“The total amount of fines that were issued was R 112 800, we also screened the speed for 12 475 vehicles, and prosecuted 919 drivers for exceeding the speed limit” Africa said.

Africa added that the highest speed recorded thus far was 166 km/h in a 120 km/h zone on the N1 near Brackenfell.
