Over the course of the weekend, the Western Cape Traffic Department held 24 roadblocks.
1 906 vehicles were stopped, 944 drivers were tested for alcohola nd 16 drunken drivers were arrested.
Western Cape Traffic chief Kenny Africa said the total amount of fines issued over the weekend was R146 800.
They also tested the speed of 17 130 vehicles and prosecuted 1 263 drivers for exceeding the speed limit.
“The highest speed in the Western Cape recorded over the weekend was 168 km/h in a 120km/h zone on the N1 near Laingsburg” Africa said.
