The African Christian Democratic Party on Monday said it would like to express its condolences to the South African National Defence Force and their families of the 13 South African troops who lost their lives during battle against an overwhelming rebel force in Central African Republic.

The ACDP’s Steve Swart says this is the highest number of South African troops killed in action since 1994.

Swart said that South African can be proud of the troop that took part in the CAR, because they gave their lives.

Meanwhile President Jacob Zuma said government has not taken any decision to withdraw South African peacekeepers from the Central African Republic after a weekend of clashes with rebels.

Zuma confirmed 13 soldiers have been killed, one is still missing and a further 27 have been wounded. Rebels attacked the South African base on the outskirts of the capital Bangui on Saturday.

Zuma said since the ceasefire a coalition government has been formed with the rebels.
