The Food and Allied Workers Union has called on the ANC to subject the National Development Plan to an Alliance Summit Discussions.
Fawu said the NDP is a serious and historical issue of Freedom Charter proportion in its significance that it cannot be rubber stamped outside the alliance process.
Fawu is concerned that the NDP does not represent development state in a true sense.
Fawu’s General Secretary Katishi Masemola said they cannot be planning to have hundreds of thousands of hair-dressing jobs in 20 years’ time as if we are not endowed with mineral resources only aspired by many countries, both developed and developing, instead of planning to created skilled workforce and decent jobs in growing manufacturing sector and industrialising economy.
“We cannot plan to have a minimal state and expanded role of private sector while the same private sector is on investment strike and ‘electronically’ hoarding cash pile estimated to be at R1.3 trillion,” said Masemola.
