North West Premier Thandi Modise has said citizens who have no regard for the law should not expect any sympathy from the public.

This follows after a taxi driver stabbed an officer on Klerkdorp on Saturday, which resulted in the officer shooting the driver in the chest.

Modise said members of the public can not undermine law enforcement officers, despite a recent incident of alleged police brutality.

Premier Modise spokesperson Lesiba Kgwele Said those who choose to undermine law enforcement officers and attack police officers thinking that their actions will be justifiable in the light of criticism on police brutality should not expect any sympathy.

Kgwele added that the alleged actions of the taxi driver suggested that he could be one of those who think that police should be immobilised into inaction against lawlessness.

“While we are opposed to police brutality, we are equally opposed to attacks on law enforcement officers by taxi drivers or any section of our communities, said Kgwele
