Roadblocks across the province sees six arrested

Western Cape Traffic Officers held several roadblocks over the weekend.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said 2 376 vehicles were stopped and 1 131 drivers were tested for alcohol.

Africa said the highest reading was 1,19grams in the Vredenberg area.

Six people were arrested for being in possession of dagga and several were arrested for permit issues.

Africa added that three taxi drivers was arrested for permit issues and that was in the Oudtshoorn area and Africa adds that the total amount of fines that was issues was R168 000 and the total vehicles that was tested for speed was 2 880 of which 884 drivers were prosecuted for exceeding the speed limit.

“The highest speed recorded was 175 km/h in a 120 zone and that was in Laingsburg on the N1and on the N1 between Worcester and Paarl 171 km/h in a 100 zone and also on the N2 just outside Knysna 104 km/h in a 60 zone,”said Africa
