Western Cape Premier Helen Zille and MEC of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle on Friday expressed their deepest condolences to the families of the passengers who lost their loves in a bus crash outside De Doorns.

24 people died in the accident, it is believed a brake failure could have been the cause of the accident.

Spokesperson for MEC Carlisle, Siphesihle Dube said the bus is registered in the Western Cape and is owned by Atlantic City Liners.

Dube added that the Provincial Regulatory Entity will investigate the legal status of the bus including the validity of the operating licence and whether the Certificate of Fitness is still valid.

“Any losses on our roads are a tragedy an accident of this magnitude is nothing less than heart-breaking but despite MEC Carlisle’s shock and real sense of grief  MEC Carlisle said he makes one thing absolutely clear, today simply doubles his  resolve to make our roads safer,” said Dube.
