The National Sea Rescue Institute in Hermanus were activated following reports of a body found floating in the water at Botrivier Lagoon.

Police have not yet determined how long the body had been in the lagoon.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon explains that upon their arrival on scene the NSRI Hermanus launched their craft and recovered the body which was handed over to police and then handed over to the care of the forensic pathology services.

Lambinon said that at this stage the body is unidentified and police have opened an inquest docket.

He adds that it’s not known if it is related to any past person who has gone missing in that area but police are investigating that possibility.
