The Democratic Alliance today said the press release by Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula about the exchange of diplomatic notes between South Africa and the Central African Republic was to mislead Parliament.

This is because there was never a second memorandum of understanding between the two countries.

DA Shadow Minister of Defense and Military Veterans David Maynier said the official reason for the deployment of the SANDF in CAR was for training and capacity building of the force in the CAR.

“But the exchange of the diplomatic notes clearly shows that the scope of the mission was broader and included self-defense, protection of property and the saving of human lives in Bangui; this was never communicated to Parliament” Maynier added.
