The Eastern Cape local government ministry on Monday said mop-up operations have started.

This follows heavy flooding over the weekend.

Three people died when a rondavel collapsed during floods in Tsolo.

Spokesman Mvusiwekhaya Sicwetsha said warmer weather that has been predicted for the rest of the week will make it easier for disaster management teams to do mop-up operations.

Sicwetsha said government officials visited the affected areas on Monday to asses the damage and also find out how the victims can be helped.

Three people have lost their lives due to the torrential rains.
