Correctional Services Minister Sibusiso Ndebele said the department will continue to enable inmates to make a positive contribution to communities.

This follows the handing over of house keys to 118-year-old Themba Mkhize, whose house was revamped by offenders.

This week officials will be handing over a renovated house in Gugulethu.

Ministerial Spokesperson Logan Maistry said as the Department, they have to ensure offenders give back to communities and demonstrate remorse to them.

“Key to rehabilitation is empowering offenders with skills to function effectively in society upon their release, but equally important is to ensure that offenders are actively involved with productive activities whilst they serve their sentences” Maistry added.
