The Western Cape Liquor Authority together with the South African Police Service started visiting schools to speak to learners about the potential dangers of alcohol misuse.

This follows the findings by the Medical Research Council which showed that grade 8 to 10 pupils in the province, 66 percent of them had or are consuming alcohol.

MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Alan Winde said the campaign is specifically focussing on educating the learners about the dangers of alcohol and impact and of drinking at such a young age.

He added that part of the government programme is to ensure that the youth of this country is responsible.
