Three alleged rhino poachers were
arrested at the Phinda Game reserve.
The fourth suspect died during a
shoot-out between the suspects and the police.
Police found a 458 caliber pistol
and a hunting rifle fitted with a silencer was found in possession of the
suspects.
Kwa-Zulu-Natal Police Spokesperson
Captain Thulani Zwane said members followed on information they had received, while
they were at the game reserve they saw four suspects with guns in their hands.
It is believed that the suspects
opened fire on the police officials who then responded fatally wounding one
suspect leaving another wounded.
“The second suspect who was wounded
was taken to hospital under police guard; two other suspects were arrested and
charged for possession of unlicensed firearms,
ammunition, attempted murder and trespassing” Zwane added.
