Drugs worth R18 million siezed at Beit Bridge border post

A man attempting to smuggle cocaine with an estimated street value of 18 million-Rand across the Beit Bridge border post has been arrested.

Limpopo police Spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto said the drugs were discovered during a routine search of traveller's bags. The suspect is due to appear in court today.

Otto explains that the warrant officer noticed that there were some rollers with yawn in one of the bags of the suspects and when he picked it up it was unusually heavy.

“The K9 unite was called in and the narcotic dog responded positively towards the package and when they unrolled the yawn they discovered plastic bags filled with a white powder, which turned out to be cocaine,” said Otto.

Otto added that they further searched the bag and there were some hidden compartments inside and there they discovered some more cocaine.

Otto furthermore said that the total the drugs weighed 15-16 kgs worth almost R18 million.
