Government has today expressed concern of the recent xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals in townships around the Vaal and Gauteng.

This follows the looting of foreign national’s shops in Diepsloot.

Acting GCIS CEO Phumla Williams said these acts of violence are pure criminal activities and those found guilty will face the full might of the law.

Williams said that in Government they view that as acts of criminality that have no place in South Africa as South Africa is a democratic country that accommodates everyone including foreign nationals that are contributing towards economic growth in this country.

“We also want to commend the swift response by the police in apprehending the perpetrators,” said Williams.

Furthermore she added that they would like to call on all South Africans to work with the law enforcement agent to create a peaceful and a safe environment within their communities.
