As a component of the Schools Health Programme, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi on Wednesday said that giving girls as young as nine yeas-old a cervical cancer vaccine may save lives.
Doctor Motsoaledi said it would help if medical aid schemes would be on board of the venture, as it will be for a good cause, the lives of South Africa ’s future.
It is said that the treatment of cervical cancer can cost to the region of up to R100 000.
Ministerial Spokesperson Joe Maila said they are targeting girls between the ages of 9 and 10 years old.
Maila added that the programme will start in February 2014.
