The National union of Metalworkers of South Africa has strongly condemned the unwarranted dismissals of workers by VWSA plant in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape.

Numsa said it views these dismissals as a cheap ploy to deflect attention from the collective bargaining demands presented by Numsa.

Provincial Spokesperson in the Eastern Cape for Numsa Phumzile Nodongwe said the people would be dismissed on the basis that they wanted to take sick leave.

“The company is also phoning doctors of the patients to give authenticity of the patient of the medical certificate; so a person would not be paid if they refused to be interviewed” Nodongwe added.
