Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa and
the National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega took a train ride with locals on
their way to work on Thursday in Khayelitsha.
Commuters say they risk their lives
on the trains every day, and they've lost faith in the police.
Mthethwa said the metro, provincial government
and national departments need to come together and come up with ways to ensure
safety on trains.
Ministerial Spokesperson Zweli Mnisi
said the minister has noted hat Khayelitsha has no proper street lights that is
why most of people are being mugged between 04:00am and 07:00am .
Mnisi added that they will continue
to mount operations from time-to-time to ensure that people are safe.
