The Western Cape Traffic Department
held 24 roadblocks over the weekend.
2 183 vehicles were stopped and
924 drivers tested for alcohol. 21 drunk drivers were arrested.
WC Traffic Chief Kenny Africa further
said a person was arrested for driving at 124 km/h in a 70 km/h zone, another
person for attempted murder, one for negligent and reckless driving and also
for damaging government property.
“The total amount of fines we issued
was R 160 100, we also screened the speed of 15 210 vehicles which we
prosecuted 213 drivers for exceeding the speed limit” Africa added.
