Illegal school in Khayelitsha still operating

Western Cape Department of Education today said the illegal school in Khayelitsha is still operating. 

The department in their understanding the school is accommodating about 80 learners. 

Parents whose children are attending the illegal school said all the other schools in the area are full. 

Departmental Spokesperson Paddy Attwell said that the Western Cape Education Minister has laid a charge with the police some time ago.

“We understand that they are investigating, the department has erected mobile classrooms at the Ludwe Ngamlana       primary school nearby and parents have enrolled about 32 of the children from the illegal school at Ludwe Ngamlana so far,” added Attwell.

He also added that district officials are continuing to engage with parents to try and resolve the issue.
