The South African Police Service in the North West said it has noted the increase of vigilantism incidents in the province.

Colonel Lesego Metsi said community members need to report crime in the area and not take the law into their own hands.

Metsi said there have been three incidents of vigilantism recently whereby the last one was a man that was stoned to death by residents in Mafikeng after he had allegedly killed his girlfriend.

He added that when police arrived at the scene the man was already dead and some people were arrested and they are expected to appear in court on the 18th of August 2013.
