Inmates encouraged to invest in personal development

Minister of Correctional Services Sibusiso Ndebele said it is important for offenders to invest in personal development.

According to the 2012/2013 national average statistics of the over 15 thousand inmates about 25 percent were sentenced and 43 percent were remand detainees. 

Ministerial Spokesperson Logan Maistry said the Minister has urged South Africans 45 842 youth offenders to use the time behind bars to invest in personal development and improve their lives.

Maistry added that Minister Ndebele officially opened the school for offenders in Kimberly as part of the youth month and national imbizo focus week, 150 school desk and 130 chairs refurbished by offenders were handed over by the Minister.
