Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle on Sunday night joined traffic officials on a joint operation focusing on meter taxis and them being in possession of the right documents.

The operation started in Camps Bay went through the city then to Claremont.

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said it was discouraging to find that a large number of these vehicles stopped had one or more irregularities.

“In the whole operation, about five vehicles were impounded for having fraudulent documents; there were also two arrests made of certain drivers driving cabs without driving licenses”  Dube added.

Dube also said that Minister Carlisle found that disheartening and says more of these operations will be held to unmask how the meter taxi industry is in Cape Town.
