People Against Suffering Oppression and Poverty Director Braam Hanekom said he is extremely unhappy and disappointed at the Department of Home Affairs, which appears to be failing to respect the human rights of asylum seekers and refugees.

This follows another incident at Customs House in Cape Town, whereby police man-handled dozens of refugees.

Hanekom added that the on-going abuse of people who are fulfilling the legal obligations to extend the documentation is unacceptable and it’s saying on South Africa’s name.

Hanekom further added that they will compile a report with recommendations which they will submit to the Department of Home Affairs.
