On Friday, the South African Communist Party Gauteng Province visited the residents of Newton Urban village in Fordsburg, Johannesburg.

A group of about 170 residents were evicted from their flats following a court ruling obtained by the Johannesburg Housing Company.

According to the residents there is another appeal case that will be heard in August.

SACP’s Mamabolo Jacobs said what they found was that women and children were evicted from their homes and are without accommodation.

“At the time of our departure from the area we found that there were still some people who were in the street without accommodation.

“The SACP would like to condemn the Johannesburg Housing Company for evicting women and children” Mamabolo added.
