Several drunk drivers arrested in the WC over the weekend

The Western Cape Traffic Department held 24 roadblocks throughout the province on main and arterial routes.

1 275 vehicles were stopped, 657 drivers tested for alcohol, where 13 drunken drivers were arrested.

The highest level recorded was 1,04 mg/l.

WC Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said that the total amount of fines that was given was R115 400.

“We tested 20 446 cars for speed, and prosecuted 1 917 drivers for exceeding the speed limit.

“one driver was arrested for negligent and reckless driving, and another for the possession of dagga” Africa added.

Africa also said there had been one fatality over the weekend, when a six year old was run over on Saturday.
