The Congress of South African Trade Union in the North West said it is disappointed at the continuous attack on its affiliate the National Union of Mineworkers.

Cosatu said the attacks on NUM has had a negative effect on the working class as workers continue to be killed and facing threats of retrenchments.

Cosatu’s Provincial Secretary Solly Phetoe said that the trade union in the North West is calling for free treatment of unions and union’s workers.

He added that they are continuously receiving reports from their members that they are being treated very badly and differently from the other union members there in the mine in particular Anglo, Impala and Lonmin.

“It is on that basis that we as Cosatu are calling on the free treatment of unions, allow unions to recruit members and allow the unions leadership to service their members,” said Phetoe.
