Traffic officials out in full force over the long weekend

The Western Cape traffic officials are out in full force over the long weekend.

The traffic authorities held 24 roadblocks in the province since Friday.

Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said they stopped 2 086 vehicles and several drivers were arrested for various crimes.

Africa further said they also arrested a drunk pedestrian in the Mossel Bay area on Saturday.

Africa said 827 drivers were tested for alcohol and they then arrested 15 drunken drivers.

“The highest reading that was recorded was recorded in the Knysna region, a reading of 1, 16 milligrams per thousand millilitres, we also arrested 14 other persons, one for a goods overloading in Mossel Bay, 6drunk pedestrians in Vredendal one taxi driver for permit issues, one false documentation, one drunk pedestrian in Mossel Bay and also one person for being in possession for counterfeit goods in the Vredenburg area,” added Africa.
