The Western Cape Education
Department on Friday said school safety during the school holidays will be an
important concern for the WCED as it has been in the past.
Departmental Spokesperson Paddy
Attwell said after the June/July 2012 holiday period, 31 schools reported cases
of burglary and vandalism to the WCED with only one reported case classified as
major.
Attwell has said they will be
providing an increased security at more than 400 schools.
“Schools will receive either 24 hour
security or will benefit from cluster patrols where patrols will rotate from
selected schools.
“We also have also reminded schools
to test alarm systems to ensure that they are in working order before the
holidays” Attwell added.
Attwell also said that the
communities are asked to report any suspicious behaviour in and around schools
to the police.
