A police officer shot dead in Nyanga

Late Monday night two police officers were shot leaving one dead and the other injured in Nyanga.

The officers were busy with crime prevention patrols in the area when they saw two suspicious looking persons.

As the officers got out of the marked police vehicle, it seems that the two suspects started to shoot the officers without any warning.

Captain FC van Wyk said the suspects fled the scene after robbing one of the police officers and shooting them.

Both police officers including two neighbours were taken to a nearby Hospital for medical treatment. One of the police officers died in hospital.

Van Wyk said this attack on police officers will not be tolerated and every endeavour will be made to bring those responsible to book.
