Western Cape MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Alan Winde said it is important that government must strike a balance when drafting regulations around alcohol.

MEC Winde said policymakers need to take both the negative and positive economy of the liquor industry into account.

Winde was speaking at Swartland Liquor Forum on the Western Cape’s goal of changing behaviour around alcohol abuse.

MEC Winde said it was a very well attended forum and this kind of forum helped society and government to find each other in making sure that we move towards responsible trading and responsible alcohol usage, because alcohol can be very good for the economy and bad for the society and there is a need to find a solution.
