The Congress of South African Trade Union in the Western Cape said it dismisses the announcement of R6 million to address gangsterism in the province.

Cosatu’s Tony Ehrenreich said the announcement was a political gimmick to distract from the inability of the DA to address the problem of gangs and violence on the Cape Flats.

Ehrenreich said what needs to be done is that there needs to be a comprehensive plan that solves the problem.

“Not an MEC Dan Plato negotiating that gangsters sell their drugs silently or JP of the City putting in machines and gimmicks to try and stop the spread of crime,” added Ehrenreich.

He furthermore said that an effective plan is needed and because the Premier has failed the province in dealing with the issue of criminality they are now calling on church leaders, religious leaders of all denominations to bring the people together as a society in order for this problem to be addressed for once and for all.
