Four people were killed and another person sustained critical injuries when their bakkie overturned several times on the N4 near eMalahleni. The accident happened last night and when paramedics arrived at the scene they found five people scattered across the area.

ER24 Spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said concerned motorists that stopped on the scene explained to paramedics that the bakkie overturned ejecting three people from the back before it crashed over the barrier and landed on a wall near the local cemetery.

Jackson further said two others were found relatively close to the vehicle. One of the occupants was in a critical condition and rushed off to a nearby hospital by the local EMS service. It is believed that he sustained multiple head injuries.

She added that it appears as if all the men that were killed are in their early thirties. They all sustained multiple fatal injuries and were declared dead on the scene.

The exact cause of the incident is not yet known and will be investigated by the local authorities.
