Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa on Tuesday said the psyche of gangsterism in the Western Cape will never be defeated by police work alone.

Mthethwa said Provincial Commissioner Arno Lamoer is currently implementing a Gang Combating Strategy that is designed to both combat gang violence as well as eliminate the criminal economy of these gangs.

Ministerial Spokesperson Zweli Mnisi said Minister Mthethwa emphasized that there needs to be cooperation in dealing with the gang violence in the Western Cape.

Gang violence in the province has increased resulting in schools being closed in Manenberg due to the violence.
