The African National Congress said it is satisfied with the results of the three by-elections which were held in Tlokwe on Wednesday.

The ANC won two out of the three wards; the third was won by an independent candidate.

ANC Spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said this again shows that the people of Tlokwe feel confident of the ANC.

“We are looking forward to the elections in the six wards that were postponed. And we are confident that when that time comes we will then be able to restore the will of the people by restoring an ANC Mayorship” Mthembu added.

Meanwhile the Democratic Alliance said the significant increase in the support for the DA is an endorsement of the performance in government over the last ten weeks.

DA National Spokesperson Mmusi Maimane said the results in Tlokwe bode well for the 2014 national election.

Maimane said the results indicate significant growth and despite intimidation and handing out of food parcels we still managed to grow.

“We’ve seen some great growth nearly doubling the votes of the DA in 2011 and the community is responding positively to the DA” added Maimane.
